SABRINA  NICOLAZZI

About me

I was born in a small town in north-west Italy and despite the many trips I've made, I still live here, on the peaceful shores of Orta’s Lake with my husband.

All my life I have cultivated a passion for travel and for over 20 years also that of photography.

I realized that what struck me most were the faces of the people I met, their eyes, their gazes and the emotions that I was able to capture through the lens.

I remember every person, every moment spent.

For me, photographing a person is seeing their soul.

Since 2016 I started showing my shots in order to share the exceptional nature and beauty of the people I met in the most remote corners of a world that is changing rapidly and is in danger of disappearing more and more.

about photographs

The photos proposed for the press are not part of a photographic project planned in the studio, they are a selection of shots that are important to me, which represent my way of seeing beauty in a world of contrasts, loss and resilience.

I believe that printing on paper or canvas, with a light and never forced post-production, is the best way to bring emotions to life and make them more tangible.

When done right, a portrait tells a story; A story about emotion: pride, innocence, sweetness, vulnerability, strength or hope. A story about a life, a past of millions of individual and unique moments. And also the history of a people, a culture with its own traditions and history.

When done right, portraits say a lot without words.

about travels

Our trips are very exclusive! (… in the sense that all comforts are excluded)

Although many years have passed since our first trip, and many things have changed in these 25 years, my husband and I still travel as we always have. We travel alone, in total autonomy, without logistical support, guides or fixers. We seek information from other travellers, sometimes we use uncertain paper maps, other times we follow vague indications given by a stranger and we have always found people who have made our travels incredible.

We have no sponsors or clients, we decide the destinations and itineraries in absolute freedom and all our trips are self-financed. No luxury hotels or resorts, only guest houses; in the villages we sleep in local houses or in our tent, sometimes on the bare ground or on a cow hide.

This is an uncomfortable and often tiring method, but the only one that in our opinion allows you to live authentic experiences, without filters or sweetening.

Arriving by motorcycle in a Mursi village in the Omo valley, trekking on foot in Afghanistan or Papua without expeditions, renting a jeep and driving it yourself on the slopes of Angola or simply taking any uncomfortable, slow, overloaded and unpredictable, can make meetings much more interesting and direct.

This is how the portraits of the people we meet along the way are born.
